Keeping track of in house use stats

There is an option in Koha that is similar to the ephemeral function in Sirsi. It can be used for items that you just want a circ stat for, but don’t want to check them out and then back in. For example, Atchison uses this for checking out paperbacks that are not barcoded – and they really don’t care if the books don’t come back, but they want a circ stat for them. Other libraries might use this for items patrons have used in the library, but have not checked out. Here’s how to use this function: create a patron using the Statistical patron type (I made one for NEKLS with the patron name of Statistical-NEKLS, with a patron card number Stats-NEKLS.) You will need to run a “dummy” barcode under the scanner for each use, but it will keep track for you in your circ stats. You can use the same “dummy” over and over.

While this sounds great, we seem to be missing something. We set up this account, but it does not show up when we search for it. How do we check out items when we do not find the account to do so? Is our statistical option working?
