Hello all,
The migration of the Ottawa Public Library into NExpress is going very well and Ottawa’s records, patrons and transaction/hold information will be incorporated into the shared catalog over the Thanksgiving holiday! Lucky for us, the data migration team is in Canada and they do NOT celebrate this particular holiday, so are more than willing to work while we eat Turkey and watch football. Mickey will be on call during the migration, although all of us will be monitoring the process.
Realistically, we can expect some minor disruptions to the shared catalog and LibLime has requested a “quiet system” meaning that we would like us to refrain from using the catalog – both the staff client and the OPAC – from the close of business on Wednesday, Nov. 26 to the open of business on Saturday, Nov. 29. For those of you who are open over the weekend, we ask you to keep an eye out for anything that looks unusual – it could be that a little re-indexing will need to be done. When we went live back in August, our catalog had to be reindexed the night before we went live, after Jim and Liz discovered some strangeness!
Thank you,
Sharon and Team NExpress
A possible blurb for Web site posts, signs and bookmarks:
The NExpress Shared Catalog is bringing in the Ottawa Public Library over the Thanksgiving holiday, giving us a catalog with over 390,000 items. There may be some disruption of the Catalog over the holiday while the Ottawa items are added to the system. Please do not be alarmed if you see an error screen from the evening of Wednesday, November 26 to Saturday, November 29. We thank you for your patience during this migration process and we welcome Ottawa Public Library to the Shared Catalog.
